How Dracano Came To Be-Part 2
I woke up around noon on Monday, Kinda glad I had graduated last year, so I wouldn't have to attend school like this. I lumbered to the bathroom, half asleep. One, I had to go to the bathroom, two, there was a mirror in there. I felt different, parts of me were numb, and my vision was cloudy, so I figured I'd just look at what had happened all at once.
I went to the bathroom; thankfully everything was still the same in that region. And once my vision had cleared up a little, I took off my shirt and looked in the mirror. I can't really say I wasn't expecting what I saw, but it still surprised me a little, the scales had marched their way all the way up to the side of my neck, and were starting to work their way across my chest, and my right hand, though it still had five fingers, was clearly a talon at this point.
I didn't bother putting my shirt back on, I just hurried back to my room and took a few more pictures, for the records. I heard my dad approaching, this was what I had been dreading from the very beginning of this, a couple scales, and he'd have said I got a variant of the hereditary skin disease that runs in our family, which causes growths resembling nipples in random locations. I know, I thought it was weird when I heard it too. But, this, this couldn't be easily passed off.
He came to my bedroom door, just a frame, no actual door in it, and I leaned back away from the computer and got up. He locked eyes with the mutated area and said "what the hell is that?" I sighed then replied "I have no idea, and it's not make-up, its real."
He didn't believe me, so he stepped up closer, I held my arm out and said "here, feel it yourself!" he did, and he
didn't look surprised
he just had an "oh, great." Look on his face. I saw the unspoken words and jerked my arm back before saying "Do you have any idea what it is? Rash, reaction, something?"
"I don't have a single idea, but we should definitely take you to a hospital."
"And tell them what, I'm turning into a lizard?"
"You're not turning into a lizard, there has to be a logical explanation for this."
"yeah, boy meets dragon."
"Just put on your jacket, I'll start the car."
There was no point arguing with it, he wanted me to go out in public like this. I suited up as best I could to hide it, and we drove off to the walk-in clinic, the closest thing to a hospital in the entire region. I took my laptop with me, I was going to record the examination with my webcam, There wasn't a single thing I was leaving undocumented.
A tediously long hour later, I was stepping into the familiar white room, with the smell of latex, and a tissue paper covered bed in the middle. I set up my laptop and turned on the webcam, then stepped into frame and removed my shirt for the doctor.
He was surprised at first, but kept a professional attitude about it, as he first did the basics, turn your head and cough, that sort of thing, and then began a closer examination of the affected area. After he had tested my reflexes and dexterity in the altered limb, as well as sensitivity, he said "would you mind if we took a sample, for study, we need to see if it could be contagious."
"One step ahead of you, doc."
I pulled the baggy out of my pocket with three of the four removed scales in it, but he sighed and said "I need to use sterile facilities to do this, those could be contaminated."
"Oh, come on, that hurt like hell removing those, now you're saying I gotta got through it again?"
"yes, but we have strong numbing medicines here, you don't have anything to worry about."
I complied, begrudgingly, and he numbed the area before extracting a scale with hemostats, it still hurt a lot, and also taking some shavings from my new claws. He bandaged the spot on my arm where he removed the scale and said "Alright, I'll rush this through, it's unprecedented, and could be a new disease, so it's at the top of the list of importance."
"Wait, new disease
you're not calling in the CDC, are you?"
I really didn't want to become a pin cushion as they probed me to find out what was going on. "Only if we find it to be contagious, if no strange bacteria or flukes in your blood cell counts are found, then I have no need to."
I was relieved. I put my shirt back on and turned off the camera, then asked "what do you suggest I do?"
"Stay at home for a while, avoid strenuous activity, and get lots of sleep."
"Yeah, about that, it seems to spread faster when I sleep."
"Well, there's not much that can be done about that, if it is a disease, you need your sleep to avoid over taxing your immune system."
And that was the end of it, I was escorted back to the waiting room, they had a few hushed words with my dad. I'm 19, but, I guess he felt it was important enough to tell him the specifics of what was going on.
We went back home, and it was now 3 in the afternoon, I grabbed some leftovers out of the fridge, and my dad lit up a cigarette before plopping down in his chair, visibly worried about my well being, but keeping it to himself, as always. I heated up the two day old stew, ate it, no words being spoken between me and my dad as he recorded another movie off TCM.
Once I was done, I headed back to my room. I was feeling tired again, apparently this change, whatever it was, was taking a lot of energy to perform.
I went to sleep on my couch again, which also functioned as my bed. I don't know why, but I've always been more comfortable on a couch than a bed. I slept deeply, but I had several nightmares about dragons, small surprise there.
I was awoken my a shout, and my mom leaning over me, it was 9 PM, she had gotten up for work, I saw dad already there, so he had told her, but that didn't stop her from hugging me painfully tight.
I squirmed to get loose from her grip, then got off the couch and said "Calm down, I'm alright, this isn't any worse than when I crashed the dirbike."
My dad replied "then go look in a mirror."
I did,I went back to the bathroom. It now covered a portion of my face, I took of my shirt, and there were now rectangular scales across most of my chest, reaching all the way down to where my belly button used to be. I held up a handheld mirror using the two mirror trick to get a good look at my back. The scales there were larger and looked more rugged, and there were also two very large lumps, I didn't have to be a rocket scientist to know those were going to turn into wings.
I stepped back out of the bathroom, and said "Okay, so it's spreading more, but I feel perfectly fine, I don't feel sick, other than a little tired, I'm fine."
My mom couldn't handle it though, she seemed as if she might snap any minute, so I gave her a hug and said "I'll be fine, even if I am turning into a lizard, I know a lot about them, it's not all that bad, I might even get onto Ripley's Believe It Or Not." She was sobbing now, I was just praying silently for this moment to be over, not really praying, persay, but just telepathically begging any deities that might be in earshot.
After some time, she finally did let me go, And I went back to my room to take pictures of the advanced state. That was an uneasy night, I had slept nearly all day, and was now wide awake. I reviewed every story I had downloaded, saved the reviews, played some computer games, listened to some music. The usual.
I just kept getting feelings of dread as my thoughts wandered, of the countless possibilities of what was going to happen if I really did turn into a dragon. One thing was for sure, it's not as easy to hide a ten foot lizard in real life as it is in a story, people don't conveniently shrug it off as a trick of the eye, real people investigate strange things they see.
Dawn came, and I was still wide awake, I was awake even until noon, I was now getting very sleepy, but I was staying up through force of will, something was trying to make me nocturnal, screw that.
I ate another meal of leftovers, apparently it had progressed a little, as my dad was a little surprised when he saw me. I ate the meal in my room, and turned on the camera to look at myself. The scales had spread, they now encircled my chest, were nearing my groin, my arm had fully changed into a reptilian counterpart, the two lumps on my back had grown in size and were becoming pointy, and my face now had small scales covering most of it. And, on closer inspection, both in the camera, and with my tongue, I saw that my teeth had become loose, and that my face was slightly longer. I figured that was the final stage before my face went reptilian, the next time I'd wake up, I was planning on seeing the face of a dragon in the mirror.
I ate the food, loosing one of my teeth in the process. I already felt it's sharp replacement piercing my gums. I put the empty bowl in the sink, and sat in front of my computer, forcing myself to stay awake as I listened to some heavy metal, using any tools I could to stave off sleep. But it didn't work, I began to nod off again.
lucky punk... why can't that happen for real? XD
Screw it. That doctor seems normal as long as you can count his decision to not order quarantine normal.
But there was still no replay from Alex. Maybe there is really nothing? What is if there is really nothing?
Spoiler: the doctor's in on it.
Damn spoilers. I read to fast!
